This project aims to amplify the Ballona Wetland experience by connecting humans with nature through technology and creating opportunities for art and community on, below, and inside the undulating platform.
To immerse visitors in the area, we created an app that collects photos and information of wildlife and human activities, allowing the community to participate in wetland research and create a dynamic map of human activities such as street performances, murals, and vendors. Wildlife sightings are recorded into a database and converted into a real-time wildlife density animation each color representing a different habitat, which gets displayed on the circuitous digital frieze wrapping around the building. The submitted photos get projected onto the central projection screens. The building is an instrument that amplifies community observations to create a nexus of knowledge.
